I Am the Lucky One

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

Fathers Day, 2018.

I am the lucky one.

I had a father growing up that was there for me.  We camped together as a family, we were in scouts together, he loved me, he disciplined me, he showed me, through his actions, how to be a man; how to love his wife, how to love his children, how to keep our family strong ….

My father set the bar for me for the rest of my life.  How to be a husband.  How to be a dad.  How to be a grandpa.  How to be an honest, working man that cares for those around him.

My mom and dad’s marriage showed me the way to a wonderful marriage with my wonderful lady; 45 years together.

When my mom was ill, my dad cared for her when she needed it most, and this was my training ground to do the same for my lady when she needed it most.

Dad showed no favorites between my brother, my sister, and I.  He loved us all; to the moon and back.  I love my two kids with no reservations.  He taught me that, no matter what happened, he would be there for us.  I hope that my kids (and grands) know that I learned this lesson from him and that is my pledge to them.

Dad loved his grands  and through his example, I love my own grands.  It is my prayer that I can be there for them, no matter what, whenever they need “grandpa’s help”.

I am the lucky one.

I have two awesome, wonderful kids that I am so, so proud of.  I have four grands that are so much a blessing to me; I can’t stop crying when I consider how special they are to me.

To my wife, I love you so much, I miss you so much, and I eagerly wait for that day when we will be rejoined together in Heaven.  I know that you are there with Mom and Dad.  I know that you watch over me, together.  I know that you rejoice in the things that God is doing in my life.

I am the lucky one.

I have a Heavenly Father that looks over me, guides me, and comforts me; even when I am so lonely.

I am the lucky one.

So, Happy Fathers Day.

To my Dad and Mom; thank you for setting the stage for me to be who I am today.

To my wife, thank you for our 45 years together, the many memories, and the wonderful family we had.

To my wonderful kids.  I am so proud of you and what you are becoming.  I continue to pray for your well-being and success in everything you do.

To my awesome grands.  You give me so much pleasure.  I pray that God will lead you in life to be more.  More than anything you ever dreamed of; in life and in happiness.

I am the lucky one.
